On invites and integrity

C says:

While some of our loyal readers have been very encouraging and supportive of the fact that Atetoomuch is getting known enough to at least receive sporadic invitations, others have expressed disappointment that we've "sold out".

The invites that we've received thus far have been sincere offers to showcase what an establishment has to offer. There has never been any obligation for us to write gushing, positive reviews, nor indeed an obligation to write anything at all.

We're not apologising for accepting such invitations, nor are we going to promise to turn them down in future, because let's face it - who hasn't been envious of bloggers who've been invited to media tastings for the opening of L'Atelier de Joel Robuchon, for example?

What we can do is reassure all our readers that we will only accept invitations to places that we are genuinely interested in, and if we do write about it after, we'll be transparent about the fact that it was an invite, and will always, without exception, write an impartial, unbiased review.

A says:

Until I strike it rich, if there's free food (that I might like), I'm there.

Don't do it too much and you will keep your freedom; others have failed (a husband not so thin, a French cheese.

I am an avid reader of your blog and many other food blogs. At last count, I have at least a hundred food blogs on my feed. For me, there are no fixed rules on reading posts on media invites. Some bloggers are able to weave in interesting elements and such posts still make good reads. However, some blogs are quite predictable because one can easily guess what is their next post depending on the current invites in the "scene". No doubt their reviews are honest and transparent but their content is probably similar to what is going around. There is a higher chance for me to give these posts a miss. What made blogs with little or no media invites more appealing is probably their organic nature which give rise to element of spontaneity for readers who are looking for new content. Yes there are more invites on atetoomuch now but I am still a fan (love how you guys love Ember :)). Please continue to write what you want to write as readers can read what they want to read.
A: As much as I like free food which I may like, I love the choice to accept or reject such free food.
Finally, I apologise for this unsolicited opinion.

Thanks for the kind words and support! We'll definitely stay true to who we are.

It should be fairly obvious when that glorious day comes where we sell out and make lots of money off this blog. Until then, you can count on our honest measly two cents' worth.

Of course! Atetoomuch is a stickler for tradition. Look out for the post in January. There's still a week to go in 2012, still a chance that something could wow us enough to get on the list. ;)

Hi,

Your blog has gradually became the first food blog I go to. I love the dual opinions on each dish. I do hope however, that you should continue having uninvited meals and if there are occasional invites, then I don't mind. I have stopped reading other blogs that have just become nothing but invites after invites showcasing products, hotels and new establishments.
